Kick-Off Project: Rural Integrated Development by Empowering Smallholder Farmers (RIDES Project)

Until now, there is no smallholder engaged in a cost-effective climate, intelligent small-scale farming model, self-sustaining peer network, and profitable market connections in Omi Adio in Ido Local Government Areas of Oyo State.
The smallholders will be supported on the learning and demonstration farm through a three-pronged approach to learning and applying low-cost climate-friendly farming models. At least 20 smallholders will be enrolled in a cost-effective climate, a smart smallholder farming model, a self-sustaining peer network, and profitable market connections by September 2022 “Omi Adio in Ido Local Government Areas” of the state of Oyo.

The 20 small farmers (participants) will adopt new and improved climate-smart farming practices. Additionally, they will access and use hybrid seeds and compounds on their farms. Most importantly, the income of 20 small farmers will
be improved through improved yields on their farms.

The project is mainly based on irrigation for complementary agricultural water management, enhancing sustainable and reliable crop production under the prevailing climate change and variability.
